Shifting Horizons is a collection of paintings that explores the dynamic relationship between nature, movement, and perception. Each painting captures the shifting light, curves of the path, and undulating terrain. The colour palette blends vibrant tones with muted gradients, creating a fresh perspective on how a landscape can feel like.
Shifting Horizons is an exploration of abstract landscapes and close up studies that captures the dynamic intersection between nature, movement, and perception. In this collection, the act of hikingโa journey through the ever-changing terrains of the natural worldโbecomes a metaphor for personal transformation and the evolving relationship we have with the environment around us.
Each piece in this exhibition explores the shifting light, the curve of the path, the rise and fall of the terrain. While navigating landscapes, the canvas becomes an intimate dialogue with colour, texture, and form.
The colour palette of this series offers a fresh perspective on what a landscape can feel like. Rich and vibrant tones merge with muted gradients to suggest not only the physical scenery but also the emotional responses encountered on these journeys. Hiking, especially in mountain areas is a time where the horizon is constantly moving, shifting, and expanding.
In Shifting Horizons, you are invited to embrace the unknown, to lose yourself in the vastness of colour and form, and to reflect on the landscapesโboth external and internalโthat we traverse in our daily lives. This exhibition serves as a reminder that change, like a horizon, is both constant and boundless.
Guest artist Olivia Hickey creates moulds for her jewellery in situ in order to preserve, celebrate and communicate the diversity and beauty of the hidden details of the Southwest. Her pieces are talismans of place and offer a tangible reminder of the ephemeral moments of the wild places.
