What can you hear in the night? A Fist Full of Wits presents F|OWL: a powerful, thought-provoking performance using the Tasmanian Masked Owl as a symbol of wisdom, mystery, protection and mortality, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world and the choices we make to shape its future.
At the heart of F|OWL – A Fist Full of Wits next performance at Salamanca – is the presence of the owl: hunter, guardian, witness and sentinel of the fragility of ecosystems worldwide. F|OWL asks what remains when the voices of the night fall silent. Will the secrets of the wild survive only as historical records and digital sound files? The program draws together a rich tapestry of literary voices including Robert Frost, Edgar Allan Poe and Emily Bronte with contemporary artists like Trent Worthington, Annie Lennox and Laura Sgroi. Ultimately F|OWL asks a profound question: can insight, compassion, memory, and conscience develop quickly enough to prevent destruction?
