A fond musical mashup of Austen’s best bits by “one woman wonder” (CBC Canada) Kiwi Penny Ashton. “Pride and Prejudice gone wild in the best possible way” โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… – Rip It Up Adelaide

After a 2025 sellout tour of Australia, Penny Ashton is back in Hobart at the wonderful Peacock Theatre.

Flushed by 13 years of sold out successes from Edinburgh to Sydney to Toronto comes New Zealander Miss Ashtonโ€™s collaboration with Jane Austen (deceased).

Join Elspeth as she battles literary snobbery, cousin Horatioโ€™s digestions and her motherโ€™s nerves, armed only with a blushing countenance, excellent ukulele skills and being quite bright, you knowโ€ฆ for a girl.

In this hilarious, one-(freakishly talented)-woman show, Penny tackles all of Austenโ€™s characters with song, dance and appalling cross-stitching.

Having been performed over 600 times, Promise and Promiscuity is a shiny polished ball with a veritable slew of awards and glowing reviews in its musical bonnet.

Best Theatre, Week Three Adelaide
Best Overall Show, Victoria Fringe, BC
Best Touring Production, Dunedin Theatre Awards

โ€œCatch Promise and Promiscuityโ€ฆ Lots of fun. Thank me later.โ€ – COLIN MOCHRIE

” โ€ฆ a triumph of delightful satire.” – Otago Daily Times

โ€œA razor-sharp turn of phraseโ€ โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…1/2 – Adelaide Advertiser

โ€œa delight to beholdโ€ โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… – Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

โ€œ..sparklingโ€ โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… – The Scotsman

โ€œ..brilliantly performed, absolutely hilarious, and by far the best one-person show Iโ€™ve ever seen..โ€ – Mooney on Theatre, Toronto
