SAC’s Short Term / Project Studio (Space 238) is available for artists to execute a specific project within a supportive collegiate atmosphere, and is part of the SAC Studio Residency Program. All SAC Studios are working spaces only – they are not residential in nature.

SAC is seeking Applications from artists for 2025.

The minimum length of residency is one month, with a maximum length of three consecutive months (pending availability).

Artists seeking terms longer than three months are advised to apply for SAC’s regular Artists Studios.

The Studio is furnished with tables, chairs, and an adjustable easel. Depending on the applicant’s medium, the studio may be furnished with other equipment subject to availability, but please note Studio 238 is quiet-zoned and not suitable for sound-based practices unless headphones are worn.

A shared kitchenette / common area (with sink) is available for use.

Space 008

Location: Ground Floor, Morrison Arcade

Space 008 is a Salamanca Arts Centre Retail Space located in the Morrison Arcade.

It has a large storefront window as well as display space on to Salamanca Place, which provide lots of natural light. There is a hanging rail, NBN connection, and multiple powerpoints. The walls are a mix of plaster and heritage stone, with polished timber flooring.

Space 008 is available as a Retail Space or Retail-Workshop Space for artists or arts-based businesses.

Space 124

Salamanca Arts Centre Studios evolved with the objective of providing affordable studio space for artists developing their professional practice within a supportive, collegial atmosphere.

Space 124 is a working studio located on Level 1 of the Salamanca Arts Centre. It is a larger Studio overlooking the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard, with natural and fluorescent light, plaster and heritage stone walls, and painted hardboard flooring. It has multiple powerpoints and is NBN ready.

Entry is via the stairs from Woobys Lane. Unfortunately this Space does not currently have level access, and can only be accessed via stairs.

A shared kitchenette / common area (with sink) is available for the Willis Studios.

Space 101
Floor Plan 101

Salamanca Arts Centre supports the vibrant, creative Tasmanian arts sector in a number of ways, including providing affordable Office Spaces for Arts Organisations and Festivals.

Space 101 is a larger Office Space located on Level 1 of Salamanca Arts Centre, in the Addison Building. The main entrance is via the stairs on Salamanca Place, with level access available by the Lift located in the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard.

Space 101 is carpeted, with walls consisting of limewashed stone, brick and plaster. There are exposed heritage wooden beams and lots of natural light from the barn-style doors and windows overlooking Salamanca Place.

There is a partition offering some semi-private office space within the larger Space 101, multiple power points, and an NBN connection.

A shared kitchenette / common area (with sink) is available for use.

Space 123 is a working studio located on Level 1 of the Salamanca Arts Centre. It is a larger Studio overlooking Wooby’s Lane, with natural light from three large sash windows, and has its own water supply and sink. The space has stone and plaster walls, heritage wooden beams, and floorboards. There is additional fluorescent light, multiple powerpoints, and an NBN connection.

Entry is via the stairs from Woobys Lane. Unfortunately this Space does not have level access, and can only be accessed via stairs.

Salamanca Arts Centre is a vibrant arts community located at Hobart’s Salamanca Place, close to Hobart’s waterfront and a short walk from the city’s central business district.

Within the Arts Centre, there are four different categories of Space available for longer-term lease. Lease terms generally range from one to five years, depending on the type of Space. Rental is based on both the size of the space (m2) and the type of Space. Select a type of Space below for more information:

Peacock Theatre
Salamanca Arts Centre’s unique and intimate theatre is an end-stage performance space that has been created at the foot of a historic quarry.

The Founders Room
Dedicated to the Founders of Salamanca Arts Centre, this is the perfect location for performances, wedding receptions, cocktail parties, seminars, training sessions, launches and promotional events.

Long Gallery
Salamanca Arts Centre’s largest exhibition space is ideal for large touring or Group Exhibitions – or solo exhibitions by professional artists. Private functions can also take place is this venue. 

SOCIAL
Salamanca Arts Centre’s newest space, located on the Ground Floor with entry via Salamanca Place. Perfect for solo artists and small group exhibitions. 

Sidespace Gallery
A professional exhibition space that is accessible and affordable for solo artists and small group exhibitions.

Space 103 is a small office/ studio space located on Level 1 of Salamanca Arts Centre. This space has charming heritage features including limewashed stone walls, exposed wooden beams, and a (non-functional) fireplace. The timber windows overlook Salamanca Place and let in lots of natural light.

The main entrance is via the stairs on Salamanca Place, but there is level access from the Lift located in the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard.

Space 104 has multiple power points, and an NBN connection. A shared kitchenette / common area (with sink) is available for use.

Space 103 is most suitable as an office space or studio space for arts-based businesses, digital design, audio design if headphones are used, or as administration or production base for other arts disciplines.
