A collaborative exploration of ceramic forms that contain and release light.

โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“โ€“

Vessels of Light is a collaborative project between Ochre Bodhi and Teffany Thiedeman of Red Ochre Studio. The artists co-operated on many aspects of the work, including co-building most of them.

This exhibition investigates containment and release using an essential ceramic archetype, the vessel – the vessel is laden with meaning and tension, emptiness and fullness, life and death, holding and letting go. What does the vessel hold, contrasted with the notion of revelation; the empty cut outs and piercings created in ceramic forms reveal an inner light. The exploration of light emerging from spaces, creating shadow, pattern and shape holds much symbology, illumination, hope, truth, a light in the dark.

Ochreโ€™s practice is inspired by the natural environment; using handbuilding techniques she explores biomorphic forms. This body of work was started during her pregnancy and she approached her pieces through the intense transformation of creating, holding and birthing life.

Teffanyโ€™s work is laden with mytho-poesis, telling stories through her figurative and imaginative pieces. She explores themes of connection and belonging. She has been working with clay for decades and loves the materiality and expressiveness of handbuilding. Teffany is Ochreโ€™s mother and this is their first exhibition together.

Many of these artworks were made to appreciate the light radiating from within. We invite you to view this exhibition in a low light environment, โ€˜The Glowโ€™ on the 26th June, 3rd July & 10th July.
