Marcescence (pronounced mar-SESS-uhns) refers to the botanical phenomenon of withered leaves resiliently remaining attached to the tree until the arrival of new growth in Spring.

For artists, especially now, resilience remains a necessary trait. In Marcescence, we invite you to view the works of our resident artists as they say goodbye to the unique brilliance of Tasmania’s vibrant Autumn sun and find strength through the short days of Winter.

Featuring works by:
Bec Adamczewski, Hannah Blackmore, Julien Scheffer, Katherine Cooper, Fiona Verdouw, Emily Snadden, Phillip England, David Fenoglio, Joshua Lamb, Pimparat Tantisukarom, Tamzin Barber, Fe Heffernan, Jessika Kreps, Tanja von Behrens, Zoe Sernack, Deborah Leisser, Tina Curtis, and Michelle van Pelt

Salamanca Arts Centre wishes to acknowledge that the Centre stands on the country of the palawa people. In recognition and reflection of the deep history and culture of this island, we also wish to acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal community, who are the traditional owners and continued custodians of the land and waters of Lutruwita/Tasmania.
