Landscape painter Michelle van Pelt has taken the geospatial idea of ground truthing and applied it to moments of exploration in landscape and, occasionally, memory. This collection of smaller painting panels continues a conversation between painter and landscape, exploring several places in an attempt to see whether the truth of a landscape or place can be expressed.

A landscape can offer grand vistas, but it doesnโ€™t always tell the truth of an experience. This collection explores the moments on the ground, beyond images and preconceived ideas of place or memory. The clambering over rocks; finding the small space within a cove, or at the back of the mountain; watching the movement of water, or looking underneath; remembering light or silence in a room. Zooming in to find shapes and micro landscapes within a wider view, and zooming out to see how a fragment fits into the broader place.

A form of mapping the experience of place, these small panels capture different facets of landscape or memory, that accumulate to offer a fuller picture of how a place feels.
