About
The Artists’ Cottage is utilised primarily for Salamanca Arts Centre’s Arts Residency Program. This Georgian sandstone Cottage (C. 1840), is centrally located in historic Battery Point, and within walking distance to Salamanca Place.
Artists can apply for inclusion in Salamanca Arts Centre’s Arts Residency Program. Any dates not utilised by the Arts Residency Program are available to artists, arts organisation or non-artists for Short Term Accommodation.

Arts Residency Program
For almost a quarter of a century, the Artists’ Cottage has hosted visiting Artists of all disciplines and their families, for Arts Residencies and short-term accommodation. In 2021, Salamanca Arts Centre launched the new Self-Funded Arts Residency Program for the Artists’ Cottage, with the aim of providing a new residency program in Hobart.
The Self-Funded Arts Residency Program consists of a maximum of 12 Arts Residencies per year and is open to artists of all disciplines (including writers, performers, musicians and visual artists) for either Solo or Collaborative / Multi-Artist Residencies.
Applications are open to artists based in Tasmania, throughout Australia and Internationally.
Arts Residency Fees
- for 2026 (January – December 2026)
$119.21 per Night | $834.47 per Week - for 2027 (January – December 2027)
$131.00 per Night | $917.00 per Week
All prices are in AUD, inclusive of GST and valid from October 2025.
*Residency Fees are planned to increase as of 1 January 2028.

Applications are now open for SAC’s Self-Funded Arts Residency Program for the Artists’ Cottage for 2027.
Applications are open to artists of all disciplines (including writers, performers, musicians, visual artists) for Solo or Collaborative / Multi-Artist Residencies.

Hire Rates | Short Term Accommodation
The Artists’ Cottage may be available for Artists and Arts Organisations for Short Term Accomodation during periods when the Cottage is not in use for the Arts Residency Program (such as in-between Arts Residencies or as a result of a cancellation).
**Date availability for Short Term Accommodation bookings to be released upon confirmation of Arts Residency Program dates**
Currently there are NO DATES available for Short Term Accomodation in 2025.
Hire Rates for Short Term Accommodation / Non Arts Program
- Individual Artists : $275 per Night
- Arts Organisations (not in receipt of any Government Funding) : $315 per Night
- Arts Organisations / Festivals (in receipt of any Government Funding) / Commerical : $440 per Night
- Government Dept. or GBE : $490 per Night
All prices are in AUD, inclusive of GST and valid from October 2025.

The Artists’ Cottage is fully booked by Arts Residency Program artists until the end of 2026.
