Why do flowers make us happy? Colour. Abundance. Fragility. Scent. A moment of beauty in the everyday.

Artist Statement

Petal Crush brings together new paintings by Robyn Malcolm and Phoebe Wood-Ingram in a joyful exploration of flowers and their enduring ability to lift us, bond us and make us stop and look.

Petal Crush is a celebration of flowers, not simply as botanical subjects, but as enduring symbols of joy, colour and the quiet resilience of nature. This exhibition brings together a series of works that invite viewers to pause, breathe and connect with the beauty that exists in the everyday.ย Starting from Margaret Olley’s exhortation to not clean the house but rather to buy another bunch of flowers, Robyn Malcolm and Phoebe Wood-Ingram explore why flowers make us happy. The intention of Petal Crush is to create an uplifting experience of warmth and colour, offering viewers a moment of visual peace and emotional renewal.

The subject has been approached with tenderness and vibrancy, using expressive brush strokes and rich colours to convey flowersโ€™ fleeting but powerful presence. In a time when many seek grounding and optimism these works act as quiet reminders of bliss and natural abundance. Petal Crush is intended to be welcoming, joyful and engaging. Whether youโ€™re an art lover, a flower enthusiast or simply in need of a little beauty and calm, this exhibition will provide an opportunity to pause, reflect and connect.
