Four-legged companions shake loose.

In Tasmania during the Covid lockdown of April 2000, a group of Taroona friends connected through making and sharing, via group text messages, their 5 minute drawings each day. Many of the drawings were of incidental items close at hand, the subjects of renewed appreciation in our confined realms. This sharing eased our collective anxiety as the shadows lengthened into winter. I embarked on sketching, and sharing, the many and varied chairs in our house – one each day – using Procreate on an iPad. These are some of my sketches from this memorable time.

The companionship of the humble chair is much overlooked. From each chair’s unique history and personal associations with people, places and events each chair has its own personality in addition to its functional usefulness.

The mobile installation is a fitting framework providing simultaneously a collection of fleeting images and the chairs, no longer locked down, enjoying a merry dance.
