This year’s theme is RESISTANCE. TasPride’s Artfully Queer Exhibition and Arts Program is a celebration of Tasmanian LGBTIQA+ culture and art. The exhibition showcases the talent of Tasmanian queer creatives responding to the theme of RESISTANCE.
Artfully Queer is Tasmania’s longest running and biggest annual LGBTQIA+ community art exhibition produced by TasPride and curated by Phoebe Adams. The exhibition is open to all Tasmanian queer creatives with works form a wide variety of creative disciplines.
It has become an annual cultural barometer for the Tasmanian LGBTIQA+ community, with themes selected to reflect and channel the zeitgeist of the times. This year we find ourselves in concerning times where major western countries have swung politically far to the right. Legal and cultural gains born out of protest, pride and resistance are being eroded or are under existential threat. The theme RESITANCE was chosen for this year’s exhibition.
The arts program component of the exhibition includes a Drag Showcase and competition for new performers with Pussay Poppins & Barry Bothways, Drag King Karaoke with the Back Door Boyz, a Kinsey Scales (LGBTIQA+ inclusive) Choir rehearsal and features a solo cabaret performance, Asexual Fantasies and Hopeless Aromantics by Sophie Harvey. See www.taspride.com for more details.
The Exhibition Opens Friday10 October 2025. Prizes are awarded for best interpretations of the theme, RESISTANCE, in the following categories: Best In Show, Best 2D, Best 3D, Best Digital & Performance Art and the Working It Out Unifying Voice Award. Prizes judged by practicing Tasmanian LGBTIQA+ artists, crafts folk and designers will be announced at the opening event.
TasPride is a volunteer-led, member-based LGBTIQA+ community organisation in Lutruwita / Tasmania, Australia. TasPride aims to support, unite, champion and celebrate Tasmanian LGBTIQA+ lives, families, goals, achievements, culture and love.
This year TasPride’s Artfully Queer is sponsored and supported by New NorFUNK (The Back Door Boyz), Archaica Schola, Artosaurus Studios and Gallery and Working It Out.
