About
Authentic, analogue photographic magic: handmade portraits on metal.
Phillip England is a Tasmanian photographer and artist. He has been making wetplate collodion tintype portraits and landscapes since 2016, using an authentic 19th century process that is fascinating to witness.
“At my studio I make commissioned portraits and also teach tintype and film photography. My artistic practice embraces analogue processes including 35mm, medium and large format film as well as digital photography and video.”
Phillip has had over 20 exhibitions and his tintype portraits have featured on the covers of Tas Weekend, Island Magazine and have been shortlisted in the Henry Jones Art Prize. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (and a PhD in conservation genetics from his former career).
