About

I draw to listen — to animals, to landscapes, to the quiet bonds that connect us.

Tamzin Barber is an illustrator and author whose work blends art and science to explore the lives of animals and our connection with them. Through natural history illustration, comics, narrative and picture books, and scientific publications, she aims to spark curiosity, empathy, and respect for the species we share our world with.

“I am a storyteller driven by a lifelong fascination with the natural world and the relationships humans form with animals. My background in psychology deepens my practice as both an illustrator and author to combine art and science to reveal the inner lives of the species with whom we share our world.

Whether through detailed drawings, visual storytelling, educational resources, nature journalling or peer reviewed papers on animal welfare and behaviour, my aim is to deepen the bond of empathy, respect, and curiosity between people and animals and the worlds we live in.

The act of storytelling through art is, for me, an act of love: a way of honouring the form, behaviour, and spirit of animals and their inner and outer worlds. By merging the precision of scientific observation with the expressiveness of art, I hope to create works that invite reflection, foster wonder, and inspire stewardship.”
