Mature Artists Dance Experience (MADE) is turning 20, and they’re marking the occasion in true Festival of Voices style – with song, dance, and an invitation for you to take centre stage.

Sing For Me! is a dance karaoke experience like no other. As you step into the space, you’ll be welcomed by an MC and presented with a playlist of 20 iconic songs. The choice is yours: pick a track, take the mic, and sing your heart out. As the lyrics light up the screen, the MADE ensemble brings the music to life with stunning choreography, transforming your song into a unique dance performance.

Each song on the list has its own specially crafted routine – some performed as solos, others as duos, and some featuring the full ensemble. Whether it’s a heartfelt ballad, a power anthem, or an all-out party tune, Sing For Me! is here to take you on a journey through time, evoking memories and making new ones in the process.

So, warm up those vocal cords, embrace the nostalgia, and get ready for a night of music, movement, and pure joy. Come for the karaoke, stay for the dance – and let yourself go.

“By making their bodies articulate, the women of MADE expand our notions of how older Australians might live, not simply how they might dance.”
– Island Magazine

Bob Brown’s Life told trough his poems, set to music

Performance :
Wednesday 2 July 2025
Doors Open 6:30pm | Performance from 7:30pm – 8:30pm

Duration : 1 hour | NO Interval

Tickets :
General Admission $39

On the 42nd anniversary of the moment that changed the course of Tasmania’s environmental history – the stopping of the Franklin Dam – Festival of Voices is honoured to present But Then…, a moving and deeply personal musical event from one of the country’s most revered conservationists.

Bob Brown needs no introduction. His voice has echoed through decades of activism, courage and change. But what many don’t know is that Bob is also a poet – his words are often described as tender, lyrical, and steeped in the quiet power of reflection.

But Then… brings those poems to life. When musician and producer Steve Crump first heard Bob’s poetry, he was struck by the emotional honesty within them and asked whether he could put it to music – Bob agreed and so began a remarkable collaboration.

This premiere performance features Bob Brown reading his poems and sharing stories from across a lifetime, interwoven with music composed and performed by Steve Crump (piano), the extraordinary Monique Brumby (vocals and guitar), and Kate Calwell (cello). Together, they trace an autobiographical journey through music, memory, and meaning.

Join us for an intimate evening of song, storytelling and reflection — one that offers a rare glimpse into the heart and history of an Australian icon.

“What an uplifting way to spend 31 minutes. With a great man. No wonder my late partner Tony was for all of his adult life in love with you for what you did for championing diversity, but more for the passion you have for the natural world. Exquisitely moving collaboration between Bob and Steve Crump (and other wonderful contributors).”

~~~~~
XIXA was born out of the ashes of a pandemic.
Cumbia is their rhythmic pulse, made for dancing, but they’ll throw in a power ballad for a quick breather.
Xixa’s horn section will get you moving, guitar and bass will set your soul ablaze, keys will transport you to the tropics, and rhythmic percussion will sync your heartbeat with one another’s.
Grab your dancing orthotics, bring your friends, bring your auntie and let’s make some memories!
Viva la Cumbia, Viva Xixa!
XIXA is pronounced ‘Chi-cha’ after the amazonian style of Cumbia that is known to hail from Peru – chicha. This somewhat psychedelic style of Cumbia was a way for traditional Andean music to remain current with younger audiences.
This style is loose, fun and very seriously full of quirky sounds.
XIXA is a bunch of amigos who used to play cumbia together in Chupacabra, after a few years of dedicating time to other projects we decided to get back together to play cumbia and have some fun.
Xixa formed in the lul that was the 2020 pandemic and have performed in festivals and events around southern Tasmania.
Cumbia is designed for dancing and having a good time, we throw in a power ballad or two to give you a quick breather. Horns, guitar, keys and rhythmic percussion join forces to give Tasmania Xixa!
XIXA is: Elias Solis – CONGAS, LEAD VOCALS  | Aaron Entresz – GUITAR  | Oliver Plapp – BASS | Thomas Webster – KEYBOARD, ACCORDION, VOCALS | Eduardo Venegas – DRUM KIT, TIMBALES, VOCALS | Jaime Anabalon – GUIRO, VOCALS | James Verral – TRUMPET | David Cavallo – TRUMPET | Adam Davenport-Hortle – TROMBONE
Standing Event or bring a cushion and sit on the ground surrounded by the incredible works of artists from the Art for Takayna residency
In a unique and breathtaking installation, for the first time in Australian arts history, a grand piano was placed in a threatened forest in Takayna for pianist Dave McEvoy to compose music and help save Takayna’s ancient landscapes from mining and logging.
Now, you’re invited to immerse yourself in David’s compositions, created during his time in the threatened Que Forest. Experience this 30-minute sound journey as Dave plays a grand piano in the Long Gallery, surrounded by powerful artworks from our Art for Takayna residency, created by artists who spent time in Takayna: one of Earth’s last wild places.
Opening Event :
Thursday 5 June 2025, 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Exhibition Dates :
Friday 6 – Saturday 21 June 2025
10:00am – 6:00pm daily
Join us for Bob Brown Foundation’s Art for Takayna 2025 exhibition. A curated exploration of Takayna, combining artistic expression with environmental advocacy.
Featuring fine art and performance works inspired by the region’s diverse landscapes and ecosystems, this exhibition showcases artists’ work depicting the significant landscape of Tasmania’s Takayna.
This year, one hundred artists travelled from every state in Australia to Tasmania’s Takayna for the 11th annual Art for Takayna residency hosted by Bob Brown Foundation.
The residency hosts each year’s artists to sit and gather inspiration for 5 days in this incredible landscape under threat from logging, mining and recreational vehicle use.
From the windswept dunes on the west coast, to the rugged mountains and Gondwana rainforest valleys, artists were led by Bob Brown Foundation’s campaigners and scientists on a deep immersion like no other.
In a unique and breathtaking installation, for the first time in Australian arts history, a grand piano was placed in a threatened forest for pianist Dave McEvoy to compose music to help save Takayna.
Pianist Dave McEvoy travelled from South Australia to compose and record music every day on the grand piano in an untouched rainforest on Forestry Tasmania’s logging schedule.
“My experience making music in this ancient place has given me an overwhelming sense that the forest is holding out a lifeline to us as a species. Takayna is home to one of the world’s last great temperate rainforests—a globally significant ecosystem—and I think we need to do everything we can to preserve it for the well-being and survival of future generations” – Dave McEvoy
Also joining the residency was one of Australia’s most famous political cartoonists, Jon Kudelka, who spent four days immersed in the rainforests threatened by mining company MMG’s proposed tailings waste dump.
“Takayna is a miracle of nature which the original owners managed to avoid clearfelling or poisoning with mine tailings for tens of thousands of years. Having been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, I feel a certain affinity with it, though I could hardly be described as a miracle of nature.
A few days in the rainforest making art was a tonic for me and I understand why people are willing to devote their lives to protecting it. Unlike my particular strain of cancer, which would require a medical miracle to cure, Takayna can be protected with a World Heritage listing and becoming a National Park, an entirely achievable result requiring basic good faith and a small amount of imagination.
If I manage to beat the odds and survive another twelve months, and Takayna hasn’t been vandalised beyond recognition for toilet paper and a tip, I would love to visit again. If you’re not convinced, go and take a look” – Jon Kudelka.
“The global heirloom of Takayna must have parliamentary leaders declare it a World Heritage-listed National Park. Our artists’ residency has recruited another cohort of ambassadors who will broadcast the urgent call for its protection through their art” – Jenny Weber, Bob Brown Foundation Campaigns Manager
The celebratory and joyous story of the first women’s cricket match in Australia.
“If they’re playing cricket, who is making the sandwiches?”
In Bendigo in 1874 two women’s teams play cricket for the very first time in Australia! Money is raised for charity, the women are praised for their sporting endeavours and then – all hell breaks loose – as the press decide (surprise, surprise) that women should stay home, know their place and sit down.
Written by Christine Davey and presented by award-winning regional theatre company – Skin of our Teeth Productions – this joyous, musical, and uplifting story explores this event and what it means for all of us. These glorious women have been lost to history, and it’s time to bring them back to centre stage where they rightfully belong.
Join us for a tale of extraordinary women doing extraordinary things and the very ordinary men who tried to stop them.
Skin of our Teeth Productions is a regional, female and disability-led theatre company celebrating diversity.
