~~~~~~~~~~
In this concert, which will launch our Salamanca Jazz 2025 concert series, the Jode Brewster Trio will pay tribute to Joe Henderson’s landmark album, The State Of The Tenor (Live at The Village Vanguard). Recorded in 1985 in New York, this album is held in very high regard as one of the most important albums that worked towards the development of chord-less trio performance and the jazz language as a whole.
The Jode Brewster Trio will perform the album in its entirety, plus some additional tunes from surrounding Joe Henderson Albums and other favourites.
This band promises to deliver a captivating performance along with information about the tunes to give listeners a deeper understanding of the music.
Jed Adams is a Hobart-based double-bass and saxophone player. He has been in and around the Hobart scene for over 10 years, and has had the fortune of collaborating with some of Hobart’s best musicians in that time.
Chris McGuinness-Terry is one of the most prominent young jazz drummers in Hobart. With a passion for collaboration and cross-pollination between genres, Chris also plays with a variety of artists in different groups and capacities within the Hobart music scene.
Get ready for an unforgettable night of live music!
Pete Cornelius is thrilled to unveil his brand-new album SOUTHERN, and he can’t wait to bring it to life on stage.
To celebrate, he’s hitting the road with a talented lineup of long-time musical collaborators and a few special guests joining in at each stop. This tour is more than a series of shows—it’s a gathering of artists who have shaped his music and shared the journey with him.
Expect soulful tunes, gritty guitar riffs, and raw energy as Pete and his crew deliver the best of Southern alongside fan favourites and maybe even some surprise performances.
Come be part of the celebration, help launch Southern in style, and let’s make it a night to remember!
Joining the line-up in Hobart is young folk singer songwriter Rupert Bullard.
“With Southern, Pete Cornelius has crafted an album of grit, toughness and beauty. His guitar playing is as lyrical and evocative as his vocal delivery and features as a second “voice” on the record – the two complementing rather than competing with each other in sheer storytelling perfection.From the deepest south of Tasmania, Pete Cornelius has revealed himself as the real deal and created an album that showcases an artist at the peak of his powers.”
– Josh Cunningham, The Waifs
Japanese-born Montz Matsumoto‘s banjo and voice have entertained Australian audiences in festivals, venues, local markets and streets for almost 20 years. Montz and his band Voicestrings will showcase his new album Missing Home. The audience will experience many mesmerizing moments of tranquillity, excitement, affinity, and innovation.
This is the concert to showcase the music from Montz’s 3rd Album Missing Home. The album is a collection of Bluegrass, Celtic and Montz’s original Japanese songs and instrumentals which takes you through many mesmerizing moments of foot-tapping rhythm and virtuosic improvisations and tranquillizing melodies. All the musicians in this project have a wide range of musical backgrounds and experiences.
North Carolinian bass player Ross Sermons toured all over the US and has experienced almost all kinds of American music. Huon-based flautist Elisse Kleiner has been experimenting with a wide music horizon like folk, Brazilian, and contemporary music after she studied classical music and performed with the Melbourne Symphony. Paddy Montgomery on guitar and bouzouki is one of the most demanded instrumentalists in the Australian acoustic music scene who is very fluent in Celtic, Bluegrass, Greek and Middle Eastern traditional music. Cloudy Davey has been singing all around the Barossa Valley, SA.
