Making my first album, I couldn’t have asked for a better producer.” Their collaboration has been built on trust, respect, and a shared love for crafting music that resonates deeply with audiences.

Fans continue to praise their performances. One attendee from a recent show shared: “Monique’s energy is infectious, and the connection between her and David is pure magic. Bob Brown’s Life told trough his poems, set to music

Performance :
Wednesday 2 July 2025
Doors Open 6:30pm | Performance from 7:30pm – 8:30pm

Duration : 1 hour | NO Interval

Tickets :
General Admission $39

On the 42nd anniversary of the moment that changed the course of Tasmania’s environmental history – the stopping of the Franklin Dam – Festival of Voices is honoured to present But Then…, a moving and deeply personal musical event from one of the country’s most revered conservationists.

Bob Brown needs no introduction. His voice has echoed through decades of activism, courage and change. But what many don’t know is that Bob is also a poet – his words are often described as tender, lyrical, and steeped in the quiet power of reflection.

But Then… brings those poems to life. When musician and producer Steve Crump first heard Bob’s poetry, he was struck by the emotional honesty within them and asked whether he could put it to music – Bob agreed and so began a remarkable collaboration.

This premiere performance features Bob Brown reading his poems and sharing stories from across a lifetime, interwoven with music composed and performed by Steve Crump (piano), the extraordinary Monique Brumby (vocals and guitar), and Kate Calwell (cello). Together, they trace an autobiographical journey through music, memory, and meaning.

Join us for an intimate evening of song, storytelling and reflection — one that offers a rare glimpse into the heart and history of an Australian icon.

“What an uplifting way to spend 31 minutes. With a great man. No wonder my late partner Tony was for all of his adult life in love with you for what you did for championing diversity, but more for the passion you have for the natural world. Exquisitely moving collaboration between Bob and Steve Crump (and other wonderful contributors).”

~~~~~
XIXA was born out of the ashes of a pandemic.
Cumbia is their rhythmic pulse, made for dancing, but they’ll throw in a power ballad for a quick breather.
Xixa’s horn section will get you moving, guitar and bass will set your soul ablaze, keys will transport you to the tropics, and rhythmic percussion will sync your heartbeat with one another’s.
Grab your dancing orthotics, bring your friends, bring your auntie and let’s make some memories!
Viva la Cumbia, Viva Xixa!
XIXA is pronounced ‘Chi-cha’ after the amazonian style of Cumbia that is known to hail from Peru – chicha. This somewhat psychedelic style of Cumbia was a way for traditional Andean music to remain current with younger audiences.
This style is loose, fun and very seriously full of quirky sounds.
XIXA is a bunch of amigos who used to play cumbia together in Chupacabra, after a few years of dedicating time to other projects we decided to get back together to play cumbia and have some fun.
Xixa formed in the lul that was the 2020 pandemic and have performed in festivals and events around southern Tasmania.
Cumbia is designed for dancing and having a good time, we throw in a power ballad or two to give you a quick breather. Horns, guitar, keys and rhythmic percussion join forces to give Tasmania Xixa!
XIXA is: Elias Solis – CONGAS, LEAD VOCALS  | Aaron Entresz – GUITAR  | Oliver Plapp – BASS | Thomas Webster – KEYBOARD, ACCORDION, VOCALS | Eduardo Venegas – DRUM KIT, TIMBALES, VOCALS | Jaime Anabalon – GUIRO, VOCALS | James Verral – TRUMPET | David Cavallo – TRUMPET | Adam Davenport-Hortle – TROMBONE
