SUMMARY:Muntrikawripa - Takayna
DESCRIPTION:Theresa Sainty + Andrew Phipps + Paul Hoelen + Luke Tscharke
 \n\n\n\nExhibition Dates :Friday 28 November - Monday 8 December 202510:
 00am - 5:00pm daily&nbsp\;\n\n\n\nOpening Event : Friday 28 November 202
 5\, 6:00pm - 8:00pm\n\n\n\nMuntrikawripa - Takayna is a celebration of a
remote and ancient landscape\, situated in the northwest of Tasmania\,
that holds immense cultural and ecological significance. Through media a
nd written word\, this exhibition seeks to honour the enduring connectio
n between Palawa people and their Country and amplify the call for its p
rotection.Takayna and particularly the coastal region of Muntrikawripa h
as 40\,000 years of Palawa culture deeply embedded in its dunes\, waterw
ays\, and forests - yet it remains under threat from current and future
mining\, forestry and recreational four-wheel drive practices. Through p
hotography\, video\, and the written word\, this exhibition seeks to hon
our the enduring connection between the Palawa people and their Country
and amplify the call for its protection.\n\n\n\nArtists Andrew Phipps\,
Paul Hoelen\, and Luke Tscharke\, alongside Palawa cultural advisor and
elder Theresa Sainty\, have walked this country\, bearing witness to its
beauty and fragility. Their work reflects the profound knowledge held i
n the land\, and the need to acknowledge Takayna as more than just wilde
rness — it is a cultural landscape of deep and ongoing significance. P
resented with sustainably sourced materials\, this collection invites vi
ewers to see\, feel\, and listen to the stories that live within Takayna
\, ensuring its legacy for generations to come.\n\n\n\n“Though the fir
es of the Takayna people no longer burn\, the Old Knowledge remains in t
he land.”\n\n\n\nWe are deeply grateful for the support of the Bob Bro
wn foundation in funding our journey out to remote Muntrikawripa (Sandy
Cape) during which much of the imagery video material was created. We al
so wish to acknowledge their ongoing support of the Palawa community and
tireless efforts towards the conservation and protection of the region.
