Professional Development

Salamanca Arts Centre offers a variety of opportunities for visual and performing artists who want to extend their practice, start creative conversations and undertake professional development. From workshops and master classes with visiting national and international artists and performers, through ad hoc support with application writing, to ongoing programs that assist in the development of new work, Salamanca Arts Centre’s professional development program offers something for artists at every stage of their creative development.

Opportunities include:

• Performing arts workshops: past and future;
• Mentoring programs in hybrid, performing and visual arts;

• Solo exhibition opportunities for emerging artists in SAC’s access spaces.

Many SAC programs include professional development components. These include:

• Mobile States performance seasons;
• HyPe hybrid performance program for emerging artists;
• Kultour, which advocates for cultural diversity in the arts and provides opportunities for local professional artists to reach new audiences in new areas;
• Kelly’s Garden Curated Projects, for emerging curators.

SAC also offers professional development by osmosis. SAC houses artists at work in their studios, rehearsals, commercial and public galleries, and performances in every nook and cranny. SAC staff dream up and implement programs, people browse the stores, and neighborhood residents stop in for coffee and conversation. An open-access venue that models a new kind of artist-driven community institution, SAC has a unique culture that fosters creative friendships and networking.
