Silent Triptych for Lev Termin

Friday 13 January – Wednesday 29 February 2012

Lightbox

Installation by Robin Fox as part of his 2012 residency at Salamanca Arts Centre.

This work pays homage to one of the great pioneers of electronic music of the 20th Century; Lev Termin (Leon Theremin). Famous for the invention of the ethereal musical instrument that bears his name, he was also one of the pioneers of the technology that would later give us the ubiquitous, and often sinister, television. In this work the relationship between tube and viewer is reversed. Instead of sending information to the viewer, the televisions respond to people moving past the outside. The abstracted colour patterns are human gestures turned into light, or a passing car, or leaves on a windy tree, whichever happens first.

Computer, camera, 3 televisions and synchronator.
