The 1 day Running Your Own Creative Business course is absolutely essential for those seeking a successful career in the creative industries.
As creatives we often prefer to concentrate on our creative and artistic output, but secured financial viability and success relies on our ability to navigate the world of small business too.
Told from the point of view of the creative person, this intensive course focuses on the key areas that most arts-based small businesses need. What are the bare necessities of running a business? Will a business plan help me? How do I manage the irregularity of my income? What financial and taxation requirements are there? Do I need a contract, and how do I know it’s a good one? How does copyright help make me money? And how can I market my arts business in a way that will bring in more clients and profits?
These questions and more will be answered and participants will walk away with new understanding and a defined path forward. By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Understand the importance of applying business principles to your creative work
- Manage your finances more effectively
- Understand tax as it applies to a creative business
- Gain familiarity with basic contracts and copyright laws
