Salamanca Arts Centre (SAC) is a not-for-profit Arts Centre formed in 1975 and established in 1976 in buildings owned by the Government of Tasmania and leased to SAC at ‘peppercorn’ rental.
SAC’s Mission is to develop and promote the arts in Tasmania through leadership, inspiration, creativity and excellence in arts development, programs and facilities.
SAC’s Strategic Priority is to support the contemporary expression of the arts.
SAC connects audiences and artists with the work of all SAC resident artists, organizations, venues and exhibition spaces, and by strategically commissioning, producing, presenting and touring key development projects and programs.
SAC’s arts program is supported by Arts Tasmania, Hobart City Council, Australia Council for the Arts, The Government of Australia and, at times philanthropic trusts donors and sponsors.
An estimated 250,000 people pass through SAC’s doors every year, visiting galleries, exhibitions, performances and community events.
Approximately 200 people are directly employed by the 60 arts organisations based at SAC. These organisations, resident artists, retail galleries and their activities collectively contribute an estimated $25m to the Tasmanian economy.
An estimated 6000+ artists are represented across a year through the combined activities of all SAC’s resident organisations, venues, events, exhibitions, projects, residencies and memberships.
SAC is a company limited by guarantee managed by a Board of nine elected, appointed, and co-opted Board Directors. [link to list of names and professional strengths]
SAC’s CEO/Artistic Director works with the Board on strategic directions and implements these with a core staff team. [link to staff list]
